Mature hair needs extra tender care, so we formulated a shampoo bar with rich conditioners, vitamins, and protecting oils. This shampoo bar has vitamin E-saturated wheat germ, avocado and jojoba oils, moisture packed unrefined organic cocoa butter, and is enriched with pro-vitamin B. Everything grey hair needs. We've also added a warm herbal essential oil blend of clary sage, rosemary, lavender, patchouli, and frankincense all of which have benefits for gray hair. These specific essential oils have been shown to help darken hair* over time, prevent baldness, strengthen hair follicles, and are powerful antioxidants that fight off free radicals which in turn slows the graying process.

The essential oils added to our Grey Hair Shampoo are known to help with scalp health and some may darken gray hair over time. However the results from consistent use with this shampoo is a brightening and revitalizing of gray hair (including new growth), not a darken of grey hair. If you specifically want darkening, the essential oils need to be exposed to hair for a longer period of time than with the normal shampooing process. However, when shampooing you can create and leave a sudsy lather on your head for longer (30+ minutes) before rinsing out, this allows the essential oils to penetrate deeper for enhanced benefit. For additional help with the darkening of grays in hair, try combining our Grey Hair bar with a scalp massage. Take a few drops of essential oils such as rosemary and clary sage, mix with a carrier oil (2-3 tsp) then massage into dry hair and scalp. This can be left on for an hour, or even overnight before being shampooed out with the Grey Hair Care Shampoo bar. This process gives a more concentrated application of essential oils known to help with the darkening of hair, and a longer period of time to infuse into the hair and scalp. If you've never used a solid shampoo bar in your hair, you may wonder "how do I do that?" It's easy. Just get your hair wet, take the bar and rub it all over your scalp and hair. Put the bar down and work it into a wonderful lather. You may find that the first time you use a shampoo/body bar in your hair it feels different. Using natural ingredients is not going to give you the same feeling chemically laden choices do because the natural oils are not being stripped away. In addition, your hair may require a transition process before it is fully free of all the other chemicals and residues from prior hair products. You can read more about this transition process HERE.

Loving My Grey Hair Bar

Love this shampoo bar!!!
My hair is starting to turn gray. I have tried other shampoo bars, but the Grey Hair Care bar is terrific. My hair is very fine and not real thick. This shampoo bar makes my hair feel so clean and it is soft and manageable.

The grey shampoo bar suds well and smells great, but makes my hair ultra soft, feeling fine and unmanageable. My hair is thick and full normally, but not after using this product. I used it twice just to see if the outcome was the same; it was. I would not buy this particular shampoo bar again. Perhaps it is just my hair. My hair hasn't turned completely grey, but mostly. This may have something to do with the unfavorable results.

Finally found my shampoo bar
I have been looking for a shampoo for grey hair. I have been using other shampoo bars, but they don't leave my hair nearly as soft or full of body as this bar does. I am soooo happy with it. I don't even have to flat iron my hair anymore, just wash apply a tiny bit of of oil and blow dry. It is the best!!! Thank you!!!

My New Favorite
This is my new favorite shampoo bar! I've noticed my salt and pepper hair is much softer and the gray is not as coarse since I started using it. My skin also seems softer and is not as dry. I love it!

great shampoo bar for grey hair
Oh, I do love this shampoo. So rich and moisturizing. But, leaves hair light and bouncy. Please don't stop making this soap.

I've been waiting for this!
For most of my life, I have had thin, stringy, limp hair. A few years ago, I discovered natural shampoo bars and decided to try them. Over the next couple of months, to my amazement, my hair started to grow thicker and actually have real, live body. Soon after I started using the shampoo bars, I also stopped coloring my hair and decided to just let the grey come in naturally. I feel really happy about going natural in both areas. However, I did still have a bit of a dilemma. My hair is now about 40% grey and 60% brown, and as anyone who has dealt with grey hair knows, they have very different textures; so even though I had the best hair of my life, I still had a bunch of unruly grey hairs popping up all over the place all the time. When I tried shampoo bars with more fats, the grey was a little calmer, but the brown was weighted down. When I used that which was good for the brown, the grey got even crazier! I looked and looked for something especially formulated for grey, but didn't really find anything. A few months ago, I discovered Apple Valley Soaps. I was pretty excited - like a kid in a candy store, trying new soaps right and left! I liked everything I tried... but then one day I saw the new Grey Hair soap! How exciting! I've used it a couple of times now, and have been soooo pleased with the results! My grey is behaving better than it ever has - and the brown still looks good! I love this shampoo bar! More importantly, my hair does too! On a side note, this soap lathers like crazy! It's not a high priority for me either way, but someone for whom a good lather is important will LOVE this! I don't know if this was just an experimental shampoo, or if you were planning on adding it to your regular soaps, but if it's the former, p-l-e-a-s-e keep making it!
